About RISE

RISE: A season of extraordinary female artists, thinkers and leaders.

Liverpool has a reputation for producing exceptional female leaders in the arts, sciences, business, sport and politics. In the year in which the city hosts the Netball World Cup, we will pay homage to inspirational women at home and abroad.

Featuring local and internationally renowned female producers, practitioners, artists, poets, musicians, choreographers, speakers and thinkers, RISE will provide a platform to create and share new commissions, exciting artworks and provocative interventions. Young emerging talent will collaborate with established pioneers. Local artists and companies will share skills and profile with global innovators. Brilliant women will take over the city and have their work showcased on a national and international stage. These include Amina Atiq, Clare Balding, Cathy Tyson, young student dancers, writers and performers, LIMF Academy musicians, Tracy Thorn, April Ashley MBE, Dame Stella Rimmington, Anita Corbin, Deborah Morgan, Lizzie Nunnery, Esther Wilson, Carla Maria Williams, Sarah Black and Sister Sledge to name but a few.

Whether your ambition is to be an astronaut, write a song for Beyoncé or make the world a better place, RISE features women who have been there and done it exceptionally well. The programme will inspire the next generation of artists and leaders through “How to events” and masterclasses, proving that gender and background are no longer obstacles to achieving dreams. We're always keen to hear from other organisations in the city who have events, exhibitions and happenings which champion the achievements of women. If you'd like to submit your project to be part of the programme, please head to riseliverpool.co.uk/submit
